Meet Matilda

Matilda McEvedy

Age:           24

Pronouns:   She/Her

Location:    Oxford

Arty Interests:

Stuff that blurs the lines between performance, sculpture, and public space. I am interested in investigating British art collections and drawing out hidden stories; particularly women artists and their impact.

I also spend a lot of time practising crafts, drawing, Lino-printing, and dress-making to keep me busy.

Art Foundation Performance Design & Practice, Central Saint Martins (UAL)

BA (Hons) History of Art, University of Bristol

MA Curating the Art Museum, Courtauld Institute of Art

'Creating with Care' Volunteer with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford; Tate Modern, London; Royal West of England Academy (RWA), Bristol; Zuleika Gallery, London

Top tip:

Job hunting is hard and exhausting.

Be kind to yourself through it!

Favourite artworks:

Michael Clark
Charles Atlas's Hail
the New Puritan, 1986
I was introduced to Clark's performance career at the 2020 Barbican show. Think ballet meets punk meets
Scottish dancing meets sequinned bodysuit.
Phyllida Barlow
Untitled: Pompoms2011
I've always been drawn to texture and material, and this work serves up a feast of fighting colours and fabric.
Rebecca Horn
Finger Gloves, 1972
The way Horn uses these gloves to extend her body and expand her capabilities is mesmerising and eerie. It makes me think of that terrifying German fairytale - Struwwelpeter.
